Sidewalk manholes

Sidewalk manholes are installed above inspection wells to provide technical personnel access to underground utilities (pipelines, cables, sewage, and drainage systems). The main purpose of sidewalk manholes is to protect drains and wells from damage, prevent foreign objects and unauthorized access. They also ensure the normal movement of pedestrians on sidewalks.Previously, all manholes were made exclusively of cast iron. This was due to the sufficient strength and durability of this material. However, with the advent of scientific and technological progress, new technologies have emerged, leading to the appearance of polymer, polymer-sand, composite, and rubber sidewalk manholes.   • Cast iron manhole. This type is highly versatile and can be used on sidewalks, squares, parks, and some models can even be installed on high-traffic highways. The disadvantages include the complexity of installation and attractiveness to "metal hunters."
  • Polymer manhole. These manholes are lightweight and easy to install, and can be produced in any color. Another important factor is the price, as polymer manholes are much cheaper than cast iron. Polymer manholes are ideal for parks and sidewalks, but cannot be used on roads as they cannot withstand loads over 1.5 tons.
  • The polymer-sand manhole consists of high-pressure plastic with the addition of a reinforcing element (sand). This solution is a worthy alternative to cast iron, providing high strength and resistance to temperature fluctuations.
  • Rubber manholes. This type of manhole has average characteristics between polymer and polymer-sand manholes. Reinforced with capron thread, this manhole can withstand loads up to 12.5 tons.
  • Composite manholes have the same properties as their polymer counterparts. However, compared to regular polymer, composite has a longer service life and slightly higher load capacity.
