Geotextile fabric
Geotextile fabrics consist of mutually perpendicular synthetic fibers. They differ from each other in the type of fiber, the number of threads used per unit area, and the type of weaving, which can be diagonal, panama, or canvas.
Woven geotextile is characterized by a smooth texture and high tensile strength, as well as increased water permeability. Woven geotextile is made of one hundred percent polyamide, which allows it to withstand significant tensile loads, against the backdrop of its relatively small elongation. However, when the material is stretched under the influence of backfill soil, the pore size of this material may change.
By using synthetic fibers in the structure of woven textiles, it has the following advantages:
- not prone to rotting;
- prevents weed growth;
- not susceptible to insects and rodents, fungal bacteria, etc.
- characterized by high chemical resistance;
- resistant to thermo-oxidative aging.
The main functions of woven geotextile:
- Soil protection.
Prevents or slows down soil erosion, prevents the penetration of large fraction materials, prevents the disruption of the integrity of layers of different materials. As a result of using geotextile as a separating layer, construction costs and construction times are reduced due to quality and quick compaction, and the service life of the structure is increased.
When building roads, gravel is usually used. Gradually, ruts form on a road built on a very weak base (peat, clay, or overmoistened soil). The use of woven geotextile helps prevent rutting on roads. In addition, geotextile is widely used for laying footpaths and areas with pavement tiles. It prevents the process of sand erosion, mixing it with the soil base or gravel, increases the overall rigidity of the structure, and significantly reduces the possibility of subsidence.
- Filtration. Prevents contamination of traditional drains and the washout of soil particles during water spills.
- Water drainage and drainage. Accelerates water drainage in the plane of the canvas. By filtering seeping water, geotextile maintains the good drainage properties of gravel or crushed stone.
- Reinforcement - strengthening of various building structures, provided by distributing stress from the weight or loads of vehicles.
