It is not difficult to make a quality and durable roof today - the market is so full of materials as well as roofing professionals. So why do roofs leak? For various reasons, one of them being the absence or incorrect installation of gutters.

Gutters (downspouts) are considered an important part of the roof. They ensure its functional use and protect the facade, yard, and foundation from a large amount of moisture, which can be destructive to the structural details of the building.

The simplest way to install a downspout is on a single-sloped roof of a small suburban house. In this case, the eaves extend at least 0.5 meters from the wall, ensuring that the water does not reach the facade but goes into the ground. However, there is no specific system here, just the appropriate roofing is done, and the process follows naturally. Probably due to its unique simplicity, this downspout system is called disorganized. This solution is suitable for ordinary summer houses designed for seasonal living, but for more complex structures, a more sophisticated structural solution is needed, using modern drainage materials.

When choosing the necessary size of structures, consider that the external gutter must fit the style of the facade of the house and the roof. The gutter profile can be round or rectangular. There is a fairly wide selection of colors. Currently, shades of gray, brown, and green are popular. Downspouts should be included in the tasks for the designer who designs the roof, so that the exterior appearance is not spoiled by a too noticeable gutter or one that does not match the overall ensemble.

The most popular materials for gutter systems are steel, plastic, and copper. They each meet different requirements for gutters, such as wear resistance, durability, and strength. Copper combines all these qualities in a system, but its cost may not be to everyone's liking. Plastic external gutters easily withstand sharp temperature changes and are resistant to ultraviolet rays. However, they cannot withstand the weight of snow caps sliding off the roof. In terms of strength, steel downspouts surpass them.
