Water drainage grates

What are the special features of drain grates?

Drain grates are used in all cities, they can be seen on any street. They are an integral part of the drainage system. Thanks to them, city streets do not get flooded with water during heavy rain, allowing people and vehicles to move freely. And drain grates serve as a kind of filter that prevents large debris from entering the sewer system. As a rule, drain grates are made of cast iron, stainless steel, galvanized steel, and plastic.

All these materials have their advantages. For example, cast iron grates are the strongest: they can withstand huge loads. As for their service life, it is very long: such products will faithfully serve for over a century. But cast iron grates are very heavy.

Drain grates made of stainless steel can also boast high resistance to wear and tear: they are not afraid of corrosion and severe frosts. Since such drain grates do not react with chemicals, they are actively used at service stations and car washes. Additionally, they are lightweight, strong, elastic, and require no additional maintenance.

Galvanized steel grates are also very popular. Of course, their service life is slightly shorter than that of stainless steel grates, but still quite long. These grates, thanks to a special coating, are resistant to the negative effects of harmful substances, so they are successfully used at car washes and other enterprises where water drainage with dissolved chemical reagents is required.

As for plastic drain grates, they have undeniable advantages: they are lightweight, inexpensive, and rust-resistant. However, they also have significant drawbacks: at low temperatures, plastic may not withstand and crack. The same will happen under significant loads. Therefore, plastic drain grates are usually used indoors, such as in baths, saunas, and the like.
